A good entry of over 80 gents took part in fine golfing conditions throughout the day.
There were 4 prizes up for grabs in both the nett and gross sections, with a nearest the pin on 18 also up for grabs. Thanks to the sponsor’s once again for those.
In the nett section a trio of west mainland raiders looked to have tied up the top spots with Steven Poke on nett 64 and Simon Levesconte pipping Scott Bond on countback; both carding 63s but bringing up the tail end and pipping all three to the top prize with an excellent round of gross 77, nett 60 was Wayne Small.
In the gross section early starter Steven Rendall led with a fine 68 and just ahead of Michael Schinkel and Denis Harvey both on gross 69, with Michael ahead on countback. However, once again it was one of the later starters who hoovered up the top prize, with OGC Club Captain Stuart Slater matching Steven’s 68 gross and winning the Cup on countback. Stuart has been showing some fine form recently also winning the gross prize at the recent KP Tid competition.
Nearest the pin in 2 on the 18th was Alan Cuthbertson.
Club Captain Stuart then introduced Andrew Bonner from sponsors Lows, to present the prizes, and thanked them for their continued and much appreciated support. He also thanked both Chris’s team for the superb condition of the course and all those who helped behind the scenes all day.
The previous Wednesday saw the July medals being played. In the first division, third spot went to Liam Smart with nett 70 while Pete McKinlay pipped him into second spot on countback.
Winning the medal on the day with the lowest gross of 74, nett 68 was Kevin Peace.
The second division top 3 were Bob Clouston third on nett 68, Eric Firth was second on nett 67 and winning with a nett 65 was Bob Adamson, well done all.
This weekend coming sees the 36-hole Kirkwall Open being played with kind sponsorship from both JW Gray & Co. and Highland Park Distillery. Let’s hope for a decent day and some decent golf.
Play well folks.
