Gents Section Report ⛳️This past week was a much quieter one competition wise at Orkney Golf Club. Last Wednesday saw the July medal played for in yet more horrendous weather conditions, with a strong north westerly accompanied by heavy drizzle all day. Only 26 took part and, given the conditions, scoring was generally very poor. In the first division, Brian Firth took top spot and also had the lowest gross with a 78 nett 71. Second was Kevin Peace on nett 74 with Stewart Fotheringhame third on 75. The second division had a tie for top spot. Rodney Spence once again proved to be the best golfer in his winter league group beating Marty Flett on countback - both players recording nett 74s. Connor Crawford was third on nett 75. Friday saw 25 play in a sweep in much better conditions but once again scoring proved to be very tough, with only Andrew Bonner and Martin Gibson managing to match the par of 69. Andrew took first place on countback and Chris George was third with a nett 70. This coming week has a sweep on Wednesday 17 July, followed by one of our main opens, the Lows Open, being played on Saturday 20 July. The following Wednesday has the RNLI Open trophy being played. All this before Saturday 27 July when Orkney Golf Club hosts the JW Gray Ltd & Highland Park 36 hole Kirkwall Open. Entries for all the above are through Handicap master. Let's keep our fingers crossed for some better weather PD HOOK ... See MoreSee Less

The greenstaff would like to extend a huge thanks to club members and the committee (especially the treasurer💰) for investing in us and the future of Orkney golf club. Last week we received delivery of our new (secondhand) Toro fairway mower from Crail GC in Fife. Although it’s used, it’s been superbly maintained by Bob Meikle and his staff, and it’ll see OGC prosper in the coming years. Along with this purchase, we are also due to receive a John Deere triplex mower for aprons next month, also from Crail GC. A big thanks to McAdie and Reeve for the professional delivery, great effort!!! 👏🏻🚜🌾⛳️CheersChris ... See MoreSee Less

Gents Section Report ⛳️ 🏆ORKNEY GOLF CLUB REGAIN THE WILSON CUP 🏆Orkney Golf Club’s Wilson Cup team, made up of the top four players throughout this season, comprehensively regained the Wilson Cup which was played for over Saturday and Sunday at Dale Golf Club in Shetland. The team of Michael Schinkel, Steven Rendall, Lee Findlay and Steven Walls did the club proud over the weekend. Drawn in a tough group with Stromness, Thurso and Shetland golf clubs, the Orkney lads played some stunning golf on Saturday defeating the auld enemy Stromness, by 12 holes in the morning. This was followed up by an excellent victory over Thurso by 15 holes. This set up a “winner takes all” final group game on Sunday morning against the hosts Shetland. In a much tighter match, the Orkney lads sneaked home by two holes to set up a final against Lybster Golf Club, who themselves had stunned defending champions Reay in their final group match to make the final. The final itself was another tight affair but both the pairings from Kirkwall eventually came out on top with Steven Rendall and Lee Findlay winning two up and Michael Schinkel and Steven Walls going one better, winning three up for a final victory by five shots. The Orkney Golf Club boys did the club and themselves proud and would like to thank all the other clubs for making this such a special competition. Especially thanks to hosts, Shetland Golf Club for their excellent hospitality over the weekend. Nearer home, last Monday saw the July seniors medal played. Eighteen player's took part. Andy Kemp was third with 31 stableford points, second was Stephen Hagan on 33, but winning the medal on a steady 36 points, was Bruce Sutherland. Wednesday then saw the first round of the Flotilla Cup played in very average weather with a strong south westerly and some heavy rain. Thirty nine played, all looking for a decent first round in pursuit of one of the most sought after internal cups. Darren Tait and Robbie Norquoy led the way with nett 67s, with Pete McKinlay and Stevie Linklater a further shot behind on 68s. A further 10 player's were also within five shots. Saturday’s second round had 33 playing in improving weather with less wind and only light showers. Keith Nicol secured third spot with a total of 138, just pipping Pete McKinlay on countback, while Gordon Mulraine's stunning run of six three's in a row from the second hole, saw him shoot up the leaderboard into second spot with 136 and the best round of 65 on the day.But winning by two clear shots on 134, with an excellent second round of 66 nett to follow up his 68 and secure his first trophy in 8 years, was Stevie Linklater. Stevie’s wins are so far between, he seemed to forget all about his winners speech! Hopefully he will get some more practice in the near future. Sunday then saw the Centenary Cup up for grabs with 38 gents taking part in, once again, decent conditions with only a few light showers. Pete McKinlay took third spot with a superb low gross 70 nett 67. Willie Marwick was left kicking himself as he missed a good chance for par on the last, for a gross 74 nett 64. This was pipped on countback by Dave Kirkpatrick, who's excellent gross 76 nett 64 (which included a birdieon the 2nd and 10 pars over the round) saw him lift the trophy.Thankfully Dave remembered how a presentation goes and thanked everyone involved including Vice Captain Derek Robb, the bar staff and greenstaff. This week coming sees the July medal played on Wednesday 10th and a sweep on Friday 12th. This is followed by another sweep on Wednesday 17th and the Low's Open on Saturday the 20th. Entries are also open for the main event of the year the 36 hole Kirkwall Open which is played on Saturday 27th of July. Hi folks, After a good days graft, we have managed to finish the alterations to the grassy mounds at the 7th. Wanting to keep the aesthetics similar, we removed the long thick meadowy/mossy grass, re shaped and softened the mounds and replaced it with long whispy grass from the turf farm that’d been harvested last season, our aim is to keep it long, but this turf will be more manageable through strimming and raking to keep it whispy. A great use of resources re using previously harvested turf, which has newly established wildflowers growing. 🌻🌺⛳️ ... See MoreSee Less

Evening folks,Tomorrow the greenstaff will be making some alterations to the grassy mounds at the 7th green. We will be stripping the long mossy grass that’s there, rebuilding the soil base of the mound and re turfing with turf from our nursery. Our final intention is to keep them the way they are, with long whispy thin grass so it’s easier to find and play your ball.Obviously this is in a busy golfing area on a par 3, we will do our best to call all groups on, so please be patient with us, our safety is paramount. Many thanks Chris ... Gents Section Report ⛳️Orkney Golf Club held its Club Championship over four rounds this past week. The club would like to thank Andrew Sinclair Ltd for their continued sponsorship of this event, which is very much appreciated. Weather wise it was a mixed bag. Starting on Monday with lovely weather throughout the day, while Wednesday's second round started in reasonable if breezy conditions but ended in torrential rain and a westerly gale. Friday proved none better, with more heavy rain and westerly winds. The final round on Saturday had heavy showers throughout the day and a strong south westerly. All in all, it was a pretty horrible week of weather for one of the clubs most prestigious competitions. But that's enough of Orkneys summer weather!!The Golf itself started well enough with defending champion, Steven Rendall, posting a first round gross 67 to set the standard early on. Sam Rendall hit an equally impressive 68 gross to move into second spot while perhaps the pre-competition favourite, Michael Schinkel, on 69 had him sitting handily in third spot. Wayne Monkman and Scott Walls posted 70’s and another five players were within five shots off the leader. In the nett competition Willie Marwick led the way with an excellent 64, just ahead of Sam Rendall on 65 and a further 12 players on 69 or less.Day two and Michael Schinkel posted another level par round of 69 which, given the conditions, was an exceptionally good score. This allowed him to move three shots clear of Steven Rendall, who's 74 was matched by Barry Reeve and Lee Findlay. Lee and Sam both finished on 146 totals which was 8 shy of second round leader Michael, on 138. Willie Marwick had another excellent round of 66 nett which, although it won him the best nett on the day, didn't improve on his first round 64. Steve Lycett's 67 nett was second on the day. Onto round three and any hopes of better weather were quickly ruled out as the first group out, including leader Michael Schinkel, faced up to stronger Westerly winds with more torrential rain. This lasted more or less all day and resulted in several NRs throughout both Wednesday and Friday.Michael shot an impressive two over gross 71 which, given the conditions, was an excellent round. Close behind were Steven Rendall and Lee Findlay with 73’s and veteran Stewart Fotheringhame, fourth on 76. In the nett section there was no improvement on any previous scores, with the best nett scores being 72’s going to show how tough the conditions were.So onto the final round on Saturday. In the stiff south westerly wind, which was accompanied by some heavy showers, scoring was again going to prove pretty tough but thankfully by the time the leaders went out conditions had slightly eased. Michael had a five shot advantage over Steven, with Lee a further five behind. A steady front nine from Michael had him further ahead, allowing him the luxury of a couple of bogeys on the back nine. Michael closed out his first ever victory in the club championship with rounds of 69, 69, 71, and 71 for a four round total of 280 to win the D G Spence cup.Steven's final round of 68 adding to his first round 67, saw him close the gap to two shots clinching the Spence cup for the lowest nett over two rounds including Saturdays. Steven, on a total of 135, was just ahead of Sam Rendall on 136 and John Thompson on 137 who's 66 nett was the lowest of the day. This was followed by Martin Fleet on 67. Lee Findlay shot a gross 68 to claim second gross overall with a total of 287 and Wayne Monkman claimed third spot on 301.The course itself held up incredibly well given the amount of rain over the week and that's testament to the work of Chris, Laura and the rest of the team. Club Vice Captain, Derek Robb, thanked the sponsors Andrew Sinclair Ltd for their continued support, along with the bar staff throughout the week and fellow committee members for helping make it a successful competiton despite the atrocious weather. This coming week sees another two internal cups played for, with the Flotilla Cup over two rounds on Wednesday 3rd and Saturday 6th July. This is followed by the Centenary Cup on Sunday 7th and the July medal the on Wednesday the 10th July.Entry to all the above is through the Handicap master site. Here's hoping we get some better weather for all the above. Gents Section Report ⛳️Orkney Golf Club played host to two open competitions over the past weekend with the Alfred Flett Ltd Clan Open being played on Saturday and the Cooke Aquaculture seniors Open taking place on Sunday. The Alfred Flett Ltd Clan Open had a massive entry of 129 ladies and gents taking part in what is both a very popular golf competition and an excellent fund raiser for the cancer charity. The day itself was fantastic weather wise, although a testing westerly breeze picked up in the middle of the day. But it was a case of suncream for everyone at the start of the round. It was fantastic to see so many visitors on the course with an excellent turnout from Stromness and South Ronaldsay. Further afield, representation from Royal Dornoch, Inverness, Royal mid Surrey and another superb contingent of ten player's making the hop over ‘ee water fae Thurso Golf Club.Onto the golf itself and there was some superb scoring throughout the day. Darren Tait set the bar high early in the day with a superb 80,15,65 nett to set the target for the cup which is for lowest nett. Ewan Rendall came in with a gross 69, which led that section for most of the day but he eventually had to settle for third nett on 66. Spare a thought for Malky Moar who finished in fourth place with a nett 67 as the handicaps were capped at 30 costing him five shots and his chance of glory.Another who deserves a bit of sympathy, is runner up on countback, Stu Slater, whos superb gross 68 nett 65 not only saw him pipped for the cup on countback, but he also had to endure the same fate in the overall gross section. So it was Darren Tait who's early pace setting proved untouchable as he picked up the Cup and also with a bit of luck saw his handicap reduced a bit the next morning. Third place in the gross section went to Michael Schinkel on 70, while Liam Smart's superb level par 69 was second. However, pipping both Liam and Stu was one of the last players in, Wayne Monkman, who's 68 proved to be the best gross on countback on the day. Nearest the pins on the 4th and 18th were Kevin Peace and Malky Moar and Andrew Bonner and Erlend Eunson. Marty Flett (our new local hero), presented the prizes and thanked everyone for making the day so special, especially the two Karen's from Clan, Kenny on the barbecue and the green's staff and bar staff. And he then announced that an incredible £5000 pounds had been raised on the day and thanked everyone again for all their hard work and support. The following day had the Cooke Aquaculture Seniors Open played for in, once again, superb conditions. It was a two-way split in the gross and nett sections with Stromness leaving with all the gross prizes and Orkney Golf Club the nett section and the winners Quaich. Third gross went to Andrew Woodword on 76, second was Angus Sutherland with 75, with Brian Corsie first on 72. The nett section had Brian Firth third on nett 70, Bruce Moar second with 69 and winning the top prize, with an excellent nett 68, was vice captain Derek Robb. Derek welcomed Sara Duncan from Cooke Aquaculture who presented the prizes and thanked them for their continued support of this competition. The previous Wednesday, 31 player's took part in the Red Cross cup in decent weather conditions. Third, with a nett 68, pipping Liam Smart on countback was Robbie Norquoy, second was Andrew Bonner on 66 nett and, winning the Cup on countback, was Wayne Monkman also on nett 66.Friday then saw the Midnight Texas Scramble played with five groups taking part. The eventual winners on 58 were Doris Hutchinson, Ronnie Duncan and Gary Farquhar. This week sees the Club Championship being played over four rounds with the final round being played on Saturday, after which, the team to represent the Club at the Wilson Cup in Dale, Shetland the following month, will be announced. Next week sees the senior’s July medal on Monday, with the Flotilla Cup being played over two rounds on Wednesday and Saturday, and the Centenary cup being played on Sunday. So once again a busy week or two ahead. Gents Section Report ⛳️The coveted McVitie and Price Cup was played for this past week over two rounds on Wednesday and Saturday at Orkney Golf Club.Weather wise, on both days, was still changeable with some rain at times but much less wind. The first round saw one of the best rounds of the season carded, when Michael Schinkel raced around the course with five birdies and an eagle, to card a gross 64 nett 66 and lead the way after the first round. Unfortunately for Michael, a couple of bogeys on 11 and 16 cost him a shot at the course record and he was unavailable on Saturday for the second round. This opened up the competition for a number of players, including Captain Neil Tait and Bruce Sutherland, on 68’s and Stewart Fotheringhame and Dave Kirkpatrick on 69’s.Several players carded second round totals of 141. Early starter Bruce Sutherland had a second round 72 nett to add to his first round 68, for a total of 140, leading the way and setting the target for the later starters. Neil Tait was one of the group on 141, along with Dave Kirkpatrick. However Neil’s playing partner, Stewart Fotheringhame (enjoying an excellent season so far) had obviously tapped his doubles partner Brian Kane for his breakfast menu! He finished his round in style with a very steady back 9 for a gross 73 nett 69, which matched his first round 69 for a winning total of 138. Congratulations to Stewart on winning one of the oldest and most coveted internal trophies. This week coming sees an extremely busy nine days, starting on Friday, 21 June, with the Midnight mixed Texas Scramble. Saturday has the Alfred Flett Clan Charity Open being played with a large Thurso contingent making the trip across the Firth. Sunday then has the Gents and Ladies Cooke Aquaculture Seniors Open, with a 2pm shotgun start. Then follows (week beginning 24 June) a full calendar of golf with the Club Championship playing over four rounds on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, again being kindly sponsored by Andrew Sinclair Ltd.So plenty of golf for everyone to look forward to! Gents Section Report ⛳️Can someone please ask Doreen Kane what her hubby Brian has for breakfast on golfing mornings!!?!As reported last week, Brian won the seniors June medal on Monday. He then joined sixteen others in the hunt for the normal medals on Wednesday, on yet another day of freezing westerly winds with heavy showers persisting all day. This didn't affect Brian though, he pipped Liam Smart and Darren Sutherland on countback, all with nett 70s as division 1 winner. Liam with a 73 lowest gross score of the day.The second division was won by Michael Moodie on nett 72 with Willie Marwick second on 73 and Ryan Sutherland third on 74 nett.A low entry of nine played in yet more miserable conditions in a sweep on Friday. Once again, for the third competition in a row, it was that man Kane who claimed the spoils!! Orkney Golf Club played host to the second major of the season, the 36 hole Hamilton Cup was played for on Saturday. Garry Coltherd’s, 36 hole - The Pit Stop Garage nett Cup - was played for and was also an aggregate competition. The day saw 71 player's from across the three mainland clubs taking part with dry overhead conditions, but a stiff westerly wind made for a tough scoring day for all.The first round saw Steven Rendall take an early lead with the lowest gross on the day of 70. A host of players, including Michael Schinkel, the Walls brothers, Lee Findlay, Liam Smart and veteran Kevin Peace, were all within 4 shots. The nett section had (Waas Wizard), Robbie Gillespie, leading the way with an excellent nett 64 , which was three ahead of the nearest challengers John Thompson, Hugh Clyde and Wayne Small, all on nett 67s and several more players within another two shots. After a lovely lunch served up by the boys from Beiting and Brew, everyone headed out for the second round. The wind had picked up all day resulting in even tougher conditions for everyone to cope with and some coped better than others. In the race for the Pit Stop Cup, the Waas Wizard was blown off course and it was Wayne Small who mastered the conditions exceptionally well, adding a second round nett 69 to his first round of 67 for a two round total of 136. A second win for Wayne in the competition in the last three years. Second place went to Stromness regular, Simon Levesconte, on 138 and Liam Smart, Sam Caithness and Barry Reeve collecting the remaining prizes on offer in the nett section. Meanwhile in the race for glory in the Hamilton Cup, Steven Rendall was still looking good for the win, until a nightmare eight on the 15th cost him the chance of victory and opened up competition to his main rivals.Veteran Kevin Peace added a second round 73 to his first round 72 to lead on 145 and only the final group to come in. And sure enough, Michael Schinkel added a 71 to his first round 74, to tie with Kevin on the same score of 145 and force a four hole play off for the trophy. Rounding out the top five were Steven Rendall in fifth on 147, Lee Findlay, fourth with the same score and Scott Walls finished third, only one shot behind the leaders on 146.Kevin and Michael set of up the 1st with a good crowd following them. Both bogied with fives and a par from Michael on the second, put him one ahead when Kevin unluckily bogied again. Both parred the third so it was down to the final hole. Another par from Michael was good enough for a two shot victory as Kevin could only manage a bogey 4. Congratulations to Michael on getting his name on the trophy for the first time and commiserations to Kevin who proved, along with Stewart Fotheringhame, the previous week that there's life in the Golden Oldies yet!!The nearest the pin prizes were picked up on the 4th by Kenny Sinclair and the 18th by Scott Ralph. But shot of the tournament surely went to Wayne Monkman on the 14th. He hit the perfect 5 iron down to the green and watched it roll perfectly into the hole for the third hole in one on the course in less than a month. Wayne duly celebrated in the traditional way by buying everyone in the clubhouse a drink. Captain Neil Tait thanked the sponsor Garry Coltherd from the Pit Stop Garage, greenstaff, Edwin for updating the leaderboard, all the starters, Beiting and Brew and the bar staff for allowing the day to run so smoothly.*******The previous Wednesday saw the Marie Curie competition played with a good turnout of 52 entries. It rained most of the morning for the early starters but, with little wind all day, it produced some good scoring and one incredible score.Third spot was claimed by Thorfinn Gray with a 74,10,64. Second was Ryan Sutherland with a normally winning score of 78,16,62. But, on this occasion, he was a full ten shots behind Martin Gibson, who's three birdies in a handicap busting round of 79,27,52 saw him claim top spot (and a 5 shot handicap reduction). Steven Rendall had the lowest gross of 66.Monday saw eight player's playing in windy conditions for the senior June medal. Third was Dave Kirkpatrick on 27 points, second with 28 points was Stevie Linklater and Brian Kane took the medal on 31 points.*******This week has a sweep on Friday night and the following week has the stunning McVitie and Price Cup up for grabs. This completion is played over two rounds on Wednesday and Saturday. All entries are in the normal way.PD HOOK Br lr: Scott Walls, Kevin Peace, Liam Smart, Lee Findlay, Barry Reeve, Steven Rendall, Wayne Monkman. Gents Section Report ⛳️ **LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE ON THE 7th!**For one Orkney Golf Club member, playing the par 3, 7th hole has become something of a pleasure! Playing in the Williamson's Open on Saturday, Davie Henderson secured a hole in one on the short 147 yard par 3, for the second time in three weeks!! It was a 7 iron last time but with a prevailing wind, an 8 iron was the selected club for the shot. Davie and his playing partners could see the ball drop in the hole, with a forward pin position in play. Well done to Davie on this brilliant feat and a thanks for the free drink at the bar in time honoured fashion afterwards!Onto the competition itself and an excellent turnout of 83 gents took part with cups and top three finishes in both gross and nett categories prizes. These were courtesy of Ali and Jacqui Flett, of longtime club sponsor's Williamson's Butchers. A south easterly wind greeted all the players throughout the day but, with dry overhead conditions, it was a decent day for golf.Setting the early pace in the gross section was regular prize winner Steven Walls, with a score of 70. This was almost matched by Andrew Reid, whose form continues to improve from year to year, with an excellent 71. However, it was one of the elder statesmen of the club, Stewart Fotheringhame, who rolled back the years with a birdie blitz in the last group. Stewart carded a superb round of 67 gross for a victory by three clear shots and claimed the Williamson's Open for the first time. In the nett competition it was another elder statesman, Stuart Kemp, who set the pace with an excellent round of 75,11,64. This closely followed by Stromness regular, Simon Levesconte, with 87,22,65. However just when Stuart thought victory was within sight, another elder statesman, Rodney Spence, nipped in with a superb round of 81,19,62 to secure the nett trophy. Well done Rodney and congratulations to all who took part.Nearest the pin on the 4th were Willie Marwick and Bruce Sutherland and longest drives on the 17th were Ewan Rendall and visitor Jimmy Ritchie. Special mention must go to Ali, Jacqui and the boys, Stanley and Tyler, for the presentation and continuing support of the club. Thanks also to Chris, Laura and staff for the excellent presentation of the course, the bar staff throughout the day and the committee particularly Neil, Colin and Hugh for everything they do. Finally a big thanks to all our visiting golfers from near and far. In other news, last Wednesday saw a sweep played. Forty six player's took part with the later group's getting soaked in torrential rain which came on around 7pm. Scott Walls had the lowest gross of 69 on the day. In third overall, with yet another handicap buster, was Bob Adamson with 81,14,67. Second was youngster Jaimie Tulloch with 74,8,66 and winning on countback with 76,10,66 was Colin Harcus. Well done gents. This Wednesday sees the Marie Curie charity competition played. The second major of the year, the Hamilton Cup, takes place on Saturday 1st June along with the Pit Stop nett Cup - both over 36 holes with a seeded draw. Those are followed the following week with the monthly medals on Monday and Wednesday.PD HOOK attached photos David Henderson (again) Williamson's Open winners. 21st May turned out to be a very pleasant day to hold the Captain’s Prize Stableford! 17 ladies were playing and an onform Michelle Clouston came out top again with 41 points, pipping Diane Crawford into second place with 40 points. In other news Orkney had six ladies from OGC and SGC playing the Scottish Medals Finals on Monday 20th May, and our own Linda Bonner OGC came out on top of a field of 94 highland lady golfers with a fabulous score of 68 nett! Linda will next play at Panmure in August. Thursday 23rd and the weather was forecast to be a total washout, so we postponed the Gorns Trophy to 6th June! There was still the option to play if anyone wished, and five ladies ventured out and lo and behold it wasn’t too bad a day. Michelle Clouston came out on top, 77(11) with Lynn Shearer second after yet another countback (13). Saturday 25th the Williamson’s Open and a super entry of 30 ladies on a reasonable but breezy and chilly day. 1st Gross, Shona Croy, 76, 2nd Gross, Nicola Sutherland, 77 3rd Gross, Isla Rendall, SGC 83. 1st Nett, Lorna Wilson, 66 (43) 2nd Nett, Lynn Shearer, 70 (13), 3rd Nett, Liz Pirie, SRGC who lost out on countback 70 (37). The specials, longest drive, were won by 21+ Lorna Wilson, 20 and under Isla Rendall. Nearest pin at 4th 20+ Liz Pirie and 20 and under Ann Oag. There were twos recorded at the fourth by Ann Oag and Liz Pirie, at the seventh by Maggie Learmonth, Nicola Sutherland and Sheila Walls, Nicola also recorded a two at the par 4, fourteenth. Thanks also to Williamson’s for the continued sponsorship and support of Orkney Golf Club, it is most appreciated.Hop-a-long ... See MoreSee Less

Gents Section Report ⛳️Orkney Golf Club held a midweek stableford sweep last Wednesday in fine weather. Thirty three played with only three players managing to break the stableford par of 36 points. Third spot went to Darren Tait on 38 points, second went to Brian Kane with 39, whilst Eddie Brown took top spot with an excellent 40 point total.Sunday then saw the popular Work Memorial Trophy played for, with another good entry of 48 taking part. Weather wise it was slightly damp in the morning but, with little wind, good scoring was expected and this turned out to be the case.Steven Walls was the unlucky one who missed out on a placing on countback, finishing fourth with a nett 67 - which incidentally was also the lowest gross score of 67 on the day. Third place was the ever steady Brian Kane with 76,9,67. Second spot was claimed by Bob Adamson, whose score of 81,15,66 will see yet another handicap reduction for Bob. However winning the trophy on countback, with his lowest round of the season, was newcomer Martin Gibson who's excellent round of 94,28,66 was just enough to pip Bob.Martin was presented with the trophy by Club Captain, Neil Tait, and no doubt he'll be on the lookout for more silverware in the future. The Orkney Matchplay championship finals were held in Stromness at the weekend. Steven Rendall came out on top in an all Orkney Golf Club final for the gross title, beating fellow club member Ewan Rendall. In the nett section, David Henderson narrowly lost out to Ewan McDill. Well done everyone on reaching the finals. Meanwhile a team of Bruce Moar, John Thompson, Robbie Norquoy and David Miller represented the club in the Northern Counties Seniors Team competition in Elgin last week. Unfortunately they went down in the first round to a strong Deeside 2 team but thoroughly enjoyed the experience and did the club proud. This Saturday, 25th May, sees the Williamson's Open Competition followed by the Marie Curie competition on Wednesday 29th May. The second major of the season, the Hamilton and Pit Stop cups take place on Saturday 1st June. Entry is through the website in the normal manner.
